On 14 October 2025, the Baltic and Nordic R&I liaison offices in Brussels hosted the conference “Northern Prospects – Enhancing Civil Security with AI,” gathering experts, policymakers, and innovators to discuss how artificial intelligence can contribute to strengthening civil security and crisis management in light of today’s evolving geopolitical challenges.

The event showcased cutting-edge examples of AI integration across the Nordic-Baltic region and explored policy frameworks that foster cross-border collaboration in research and innovation. Participants emphasized how new technologies and partnerships can enhance preparedness and resilience, safeguarding both people and the environment, while highlighting the Nordic-Baltic region’s leadership in technological advancement and cooperation.

Our project coordinator Arnaud Gotlieb (Simula) attended the event and actively engaged with participants, distributing AI4COPSEC flyers to raise awareness about the project’s objectives and impact. Arnaud presented how AI4COPSEC leverages artificial intelligence to support public safety, community engagement, and cross-border collaboration in law enforcement.

The conference programme was filled with innovative examples of AI integration in the Nordic-Baltic region and discussions on policy frameworks fostering cross-cutting collaboration. The event speakers highlighted the opportunities that new technologies and collaborations bring to the civil-security field – in protecting lives and our planet – and the central role that the Nordics and Baltics can take in the field through longstanding interregional relations, agility and technological leadership.

AI4COPSEC coordinator participation underscored the project’s alignment with the goals of the Baltic and Nordic R&I community—to foster innovation-driven solutions that enhance civil protection and societal resilience. The conference provided an excellent opportunity for AI4COPSEC to connect with new stakeholders from across Northern Europe and to strengthen synergies with regional research and innovation initiatives dedicated to advancing secure and sustainable societies.
