GeoAI 2025 – Artificial Intelligence for Geospatial Data was successfully held on 18–19 December 2025 at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. The event gathered 108 participants and featured around 40 scientific papers, confirming the strong interest of the Italian research and innovation community in GeoAI.
The conference brought together representatives from academia, public institutions and industry, fostering a multidisciplinary dialogue on current trends, challenges and opportunities in Artificial Intelligence for geospatial data. A central focus of the discussions was the critical assessment of emerging AI paradigms, including foundation models and new data-processing architectures, addressing both their potential and the risks associated with excessive hype.
GeoAI 2025 was organised by a national committee led by the Politecnico di Torino, with co-organisation from Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) and Università di Macerata, with the shared goal of strengthening and consolidating the Italian GeoAI community.
As an AI4COPSEC partner, Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) actively contributed to the programme by presenting the first-year progress of the AI4COPSEC project. The presentation highlighted advances in GeoAI for Copernicus-enabled maritime and border surveillance, showcasing how the project fuses heterogeneous data sources—such as satellite Earth Observation data, vessel signals and complementary information streams—to enhance situational awareness for environmental monitoring and maritime security applications.
The programme also featured invited lectures from NVIDIA on Federated Learning, providing an industry perspective on distributed and privacy-aware AI solutions, increasingly relevant for large-scale and sensitive geospatial applications.
