At the EU Space Days 2025, held on May 27–28 in Gdańsk, Poland, our partner, Yann Guichoux, CEO of eOdyn and technical coordinator of AI4COPSEC, presented the project’s innovative approach to enhancing maritime and border surveillance using advanced AI and GeoAI technologies.
AI4COPSEC was featured during a dedicated session on May 28, from 12:00 to 13:00, highlighting the latest Horizon Europe projects supporting Copernicus Services. Organised in collaboration with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), the session brought together key projects addressing diverse societal and environmental challenges with space-based data and artificial intelligence.
In addition to AI4COPSEC, the panel included several other EU-funded project managed by HaDEA including THEIA, which focuses on enhancing Copernicus Security Services; TERRA, an intelligent platform for integrating climate services; and CLMS Cities, which develops Copernicus-based solutions to support the EU Cities Mission. These projects collectively illustrated the broad scope and operational impact of European innovation in space and digital technologies.
Yann Guichoux highlighted AI4COPSEC’s unique use of self-supervised deep learning models and its ability to integrate heterogeneous data sources such as satellite imagery, AIS signals, and open-source social media intelligence. The project aims to enhance existing Copernicus services, including oil spill detection and illegal fishing alerts, while enabling new capabilities for search-and-rescue operations and monitoring irregular migration.
AI4COPSEC’s presence at EU Space Days underscored the project’s relevance and value in operationalising space-based intelligence for security applications, drawing interest from policymakers, stakeholders, and industry leaders across Europe.
