AI4COPSEC partner Università Politecnica delle Marche represented by The GAP – Geomatics Applications & Processing research group of the Department of Civil and Building Engineering and Architecture (DICEA) participated in the ISPRS Congress 2026 – 47th Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing in Toronto, Canada.
Recognised as a leading international event in photogrammetry, remote sensing, and geomatics, the ISPRS Congress 2026 (4-11 July 2026) brought together researchers and professionals to exchange knowledge and discuss recent advances in GeoAI, Earth Observation, and technologies for environmental and territorial monitoring.
During the event, the GAP group presented a paper developed within the AI4COPSEC project “Multi-Source Remote Sensing for Maritime Security: A Performance Evaluation of SAR and RGB Imagery for Small-Scale Fishing Vessel Detection”.
The paper is authored by Stefano Chiappini, Marsia Sanità, Alessandro Galdelli, Anna Nora Tassetti, Roberto Pierdicca, Carmen Ferrà Vega, and Andrea Fiorani.
The study evaluates the performance of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and RGB imagery in detecting small-scale fishing vessels, exploring the potential of multi-source remote-sensing data and artificial intelligence to support maritime security and monitoring. This research contributes to the objectives of the AI4COPSEC project, which focuses on developing AI-powered solutions for enhanced maritime surveillance and security.
Participation in the ISPRS Congress 2026 highlights the commitment of AI4COPSEC consortium to advancing AI-powered solutions that integrate remote sensing, computer vision, and GeoAI for maritime monitoring and security. It also provides an important opportunity to strengthen international scientific collaboration, share research outcomes, and contribute to the development of innovative technologies for safer and more effective maritime surveillance.
